Yesterday evening, in a story on corporate sponsorship of soccer teams in the current financial situation, Nippon TV (channel 4 in standard broadcast) ran a few minutes on Mito's president Numata as the head of "Japan's poorest team", which while true in pro terms seems unfair considering how well the relatively meager finances are managed.
A meeting was shown between Numata and the president of the major sponsor, K's Electronics. It seems likely that the company will continue to sponsor Mito, but perhaps at a lower amount than in previous years.
I often speak with president Numata at length, and had just discussed ways to market the team to English speakers as well as ideas for community programs the day before this aired. I've always encountered him as outgoing and aloof and to see the serious business side was interesting.
