Young forward Keisuke Endo has been confirmed to be part of the U-19 national team heading to Saudi Arabia this week. The team will participate in an AFC sanctioned tournament against three middle eastern teams.
During the training session, Endo made national sports news by making a joking remark to Tokyo Verdy midfielder Kawano (also on the U-19 team), saying "I guess we'll be playing against you (in J2) next year, right?". Kawano stated before Tokyo's next match that this comment focused him to treat that game (against fellow strugglers Omiya) as a do or die situation, and make that game have meaning as "the one to make sure we won't play Mito next year". Tokyo would go on to win that match 1-0 but still join Omiya and about five other teams in the danger zone for relegation.
